Xiaomi Pad 6 review

The Xiaomi Pad 6 boasts a straightforward design featuring an aluminum unibody with a matte finish, providing a nice feel but being prone to smudges. The tablet’s thin and lightweight profile, along with its flat edges, offers enhanced grip. Its front panel is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

The tablet incorporates an 11-inch IPS LCD display with a rapid 144Hz refresh rate and a pixel density of 309 PPI, offering sharp visuals. Despite not having OLED technology, the display’s contrast is satisfactory. It supports 10-bit color, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ video. Various color options are available, and you can achieve decent color accuracy. The Adaptive color mode adjusts the white point temperature based on ambient light. The display’s brightness is solid, measuring over 420 nits with manual adjustment and boosting up to 500 nits in auto mode, which is an improvement over the Pad 5 model.

Audio

The tablet features 4 Dolby Atmos speakers, two on each shorter side, delivering excellent loudness and quality audio, including nice vocals and some bass. However, the Xiaomi Pad 6 lacks a fingerprint reader for unlocking, relying on a PIN or enabling 2D face unlock.

Storage and feature

It comes with either 128 or 256GB of non-expandable storage.Optional accessories for the Xiaomi Pad 6 include the Smart Pen stylus, which supports 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity and has shortcut buttons, and the keyboard case that turns the tablet into a laptop-like experience. There’s also a cover case for protection and a stand. The tablet runs MIUI 14 on top of Android 13, offering tablet-specific features. A taskbar with shortcuts and recent apps can be found at the bottom, and the task manager is optimized for the large screen. Multi-tasking is supported with split-screen and floating window options. MIUI 14’s interface provides familiar features, and the tablet can also be connected to a Xiaomi phone for added functionality.

Chipset

The Xiaomi Pad 6 has a high-powered chipset, a Snapdragon 870, which has often been found in the flagship killer-style smartphones. The benchmark performance isn’t chart-topping but is respectable. There’s enough power for a smooth UI and multitasking experience, as well as breezy gaming.

Snapdragon 870

The Xiaomi Pad 6’s thermal management is excellent. We observed hardly any thermal throttling during our prolonged stress test. There is no cellular connectivity on the Pad 6, which you do find on some rivals. There is support for Wi-Fi 6, though.

Battery

The Xiaomi Pad 6 has an 8840 milliamp-hour battery, and the battery life is good. We measured 11 and a half hours of screen-on time when web browsing and 12 and a half hours when playing back videos. There is support for 33-watt wired charging with the bundled adapter. We were able to charge the Pad 6 from 0 to 38 percent in half an hour, better than what the Pad 5 could achieve.

Camera

Unlike what we see on smartphones these days, the Xiaomi Pad 6 has just one 13-megapixel camera on the back. It’s no slouch when it comes to performance. The daylight photos we shot with this camera are excellent, with plenty of detail, low noise, high contrast, accurate colors, and wide dynamic range.

13-megapixel camera

Nighttime photos are quite good too. 4K video captured from the rear camera is detailed and colorful, with good contrast and wide dynamic range. The rendition is balanced and natural-looking. We have the 8-megapixel front-facing cam. Selfie videos come out in 1080P resolution, and they have a passable amount of detail and good exposure, colors, and contrast. Still photos taken with the selfie cam turned out good, with nice detail and contrast, wide dynamic range, and lively colors.

Overall

The Xiaomi Pad 6 is a really nice package overall with a compact aluminum design, a high-res and high-refresh-rate display, nice stereo speakers, good cameras, and a smooth user experience. On top of that, the price is quite reasonable too. If you do want to spend a bit more money, there are some nice accessories to choose from. So, if you’re looking for an Android tablet with plenty of bang for your buck, the Xiaomi Pad 6 is worth recommending.
