Nothing phone 2: Hands-on & key features

One of the more unique phones that came out last year was the nothing phone 1, and now we have its sequel, the nothing phone 2.

Design

The original Nothing phone was an upper mid-ranger that could draw your attention with an arrangement of LED lights, and the Nothing phone 2 follows that same formula and design with again those eye-catching glyphs on the back.

The phone is a bit larger now, but so is the display. It’s a 6.7-inch OLED versus 6.55 inches, and this one has ltpotec, meaning its 120Hz refresh rate is more adaptive.

Upgraded Chipset

An even bigger upgrade, though, is the new chipset. Rather than a high-end mid-range chip, now there’s full-on flagship silicon, a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. Nothing claims that the performance is up to 80% better now.

Camera

The new chipset also means new image processing, so the camera performance should be improved too. The nothing phone 2’s 50-megapixel main cam also has a new IMX 890 sensor, but the 50-megapixel ultra-wide appears the same as before. There is a new 32-megapixel selfie cam as well.

Android 13 and UI

The interface of the phone is Nothing’s highly customizable UI, and they promised support for three years of OS updates and four years of security patches. There’s a pair of stereo speakers for your audio, but no headphone jack just like last year.

Battery

The battery, though, is larger. It’s 4,700 milliamp-hours versus the previous model’s 4,500. There’s support for faster 45-watt charging here, and the wireless charging is back too, but no charger comes in the box. That’s where this video is sponsored by UGREEN comes in. They offer a variety of charging accessories, which is pretty useful if you buy a phone without a charger. For example, the UGREEN 45-watt wired charger seems like a perfect fit for the nothing phone 2. It’s super small and light, and it can even split its charging power between two ports, so you could charge the nothing phone and another device at the same time.
