Infinix Zero 30 5G review

Infinix focuses on value-based mid-rangers. Both the company’s Zero family brings some higher-end specs, and the latest model to come our way is the Zero 30. It packs some features beyond what you might expect from a mid-range phone, such as a 144Hz curved AMOLED display, a 108-megapixel camera with OIS, and a 50-megapixel selfie camera. It also includes a large battery, fast charging, and a decent chipset, creating an intriguing package.

Display

6.78-inch OLED

The device’s display is a curved 6.78-inch OLED with a 1080p resolution and an extra-fast 144Hz refresh rate, which is faster than the more common 120Hz displays. This results in smoother swiping and scrolling. The display can dial down the refresh rate to 60Hz when idle to save energy. However, its maximum brightness reaches up to 470 nits with the manual slider, falling slightly behind some competitors. It offers excellent contrast and color accuracy but lacks support for HDR video.

The Infinix Zero 30 features a stereo speaker setup with DTS support, providing good loudness and clean sound quality with crisp mids and highs.

Biometric authentication is handled by an under-display fingerprint reader, which is accurate and responsive.

Storage

The phone comes with 256GB of storage, although it is not expandable via microSD. It runs Infinix’s XOS skin on top of Android 13, offering a fairly clean user experience with some customization options, including themes and a smart panel sidebar.

Chipset

MediaTek Dimensity 820 chipset

Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 820 chipset, which is a 5G-capable processor, the Zero 30 delivers solid performance, on par with the Snapdragon 778G. It handles day-to-day tasks and less demanding games well. However, it exhibited aggressive thermal throttling during prolonged stress tests.

Battery life

The device is equipped with a 5000mAh battery, but its endurance rating is good but not exceptional at 102 hours in tests. It supports fast charging with a 68W charger included in the box, capable of reaching 72% charge in half an hour.

Camera on Infinix Zero 30

The Zero 30 has a 108-megapixel main cam, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide, and a depth sensor. On the front, it boasts a 50-megapixel selfie cam with autofocus and an LED flash, along with 4K video capture.

Camera on Infinix Zero 30

Let’s start with the main cam. It bins pixels to produce 12-megapixel photos, which look pretty good. Dynamic range is nice and wide, and colors are mostly true to life. There is a decent amount of detail, but fine details like foliage and grass look a bit soft when examined closely. While there’s no telephoto zoom, the 3x digital zoom from the main cam is decent. The photos look clean with true-to-life colors and wide dynamic range. There is just some minor softness when pixel peeping.

The main camera does quite well in low-light conditions. The photos are clean with good detail and nice colors. The dynamic range is surprisingly good too, with plenty of detail in darker areas and pretty well-contained light sources. There is a little bit of noise and some softness on surfaces, but nothing too dramatic. The Zero 30 applies some form of night mode processing automatically, but beyond that, there is a dedicated night mode on the main cam. It brightens up shots noticeably and results in better-contained and less blown-out light sources. Even so, we aren’t sure we would outright recommend using night mode since it also applies a very liberal amount of sharpening across the frame, resulting in a harsh and processed look.
